Summer Night Quilt - Reverse and details

Summer Night Quilt - 54” x 80”
Since we’re on the subject of summer cravings, I thought I’d tell you I’ve been craving S’mores lately. That may have something to do with the constant camp fire smell wafting into my apartment - residents of Bushwick love to cook outdoors in the summertime! One whiff of that smokey air and I’m instantly transported to camping trips of my childhood in Leo Carillo, California. We’d make S’mores as we watched the sunset, salty and hungry from swimming in the ocean all day. In this quilt I’ve built a campfire intuitively, almost unintentionally. Alas, my S’mores craving is still unsatisfied. Here.

Summer Day Quilt - Here’s the back and a detail of the Summer Day Quilt. I get so excited when the back of the quilt turns out to have a beautiful, minimalist composition, almost by accident. It’s like a BONUS QUILT!

Summer Day Quilt - 52” x 75”
I crave these colors in the Summertime. The juicy peaches and sunny yellows are at the same time theraputic and energizing. I started this modern take on the Courthouse Steps motif with a precious square of my all time favorite Leah Goren print, and from there it grew outwards. Along the way it became a study in perspective. As I added strips, I imagined the cheer it could bring to a home on a cloudy day. I give you now my snap shot of Summer, and hope your Summer is going well too (if you live in the Northern Hemisphere). Here.

The fact that I can’t bear to throw away the tiniest of fabric scraps probably proves I’m a dyed in the wool quilter.

We are excited to announce the opening of Sometimes, our very first pop-up shop, this summer in Brooklyn!
We’ll be taking over a small shop in Greenpoint for a weekend in June. I’m very excited to show the alpacas I’ve been making, along with other ceramics by Leah, Rachel, and Masuko. There will also be jewelry by Kaye and quilts by Gina!
